Daigoji Temple

With its vast grounds and the National Treasure Five-storied Pagoda that tells the story of over 1100 years, Sanbo-in, built in 1115 by the 14th head priest Kakujo, is a key part of Daigoji, housing successive head priests.
The current Sanbo-in, with many of its buildings designated as Important Cultural Properties, and its garden, designed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1598 for cherry blossom viewing, still conveys the splendor of the Momoyama period.

Ninnaji Temple

Founded in 888, Ninna-ji is the head temple of the Omuro school of the Shingon Sect of Buddhism.
Its grounds feature structures built in the Edo period, such as a five-storied pagoda and Niomon gate, as well as the Omuro cherry trees, planted at the same time, which bloom in mid-April. The temple, deeply connected to the Imperial Family, was registered as a World Heritage site in 1994.

Ryoanji Temple

Ryoanji is a temple of the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect, founded in 1450 during the Muromachi period. The temple’s renowned rock garden has been visited frequently by historical figures such as Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In recent years, it has gained international recognition due to praise from notable figures such as Queen Elizabeth and Steve Jobs.
The rock garden features 15 stones of varying sizes arranged in such a way that all 15 stones cannot be seen at once. This arrangement is said to embody the teachings of Zen.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple

Kiyomizu-dera, a revered temple of the Kita-Hosso sect, was founded in 778 during the Heian period and boasts a rich history spanning over 1,200 years.
Kiyomizu-dera stands as a symbol of Japan's traditional culture and artistry, with its stunning architecture reflecting the unique aesthetic values of the nation. The temple's iconic wooden stage, known as the "Kiyomizu Stage," is a marvel of engineering, constructed without a single nail, with its lattice of wooden pillars seamlessly holding it together. Below the stage, the sacred Otowa Waterfall flows, while the Koyasu Pagoda, famed for prayers of safe childbirth, stands across the valley. Known for its cherry blossoms and vibrant autumn leaves, the temple offers breathtaking beauty in every season.
